We are a transition broker who has a focus in fertility and reproductive medicine. We are here to act as a resource if you are looking to sell your fertility clinic. Since selling your fertility clinic might be the single biggest decision of your professional career, it is important to be as prepared as possible.

So, with that, let’s look at some of the most common questions we get about selling a fertility clinic.

Should I sell my fertility clinic?

Every doctor who owns a fertility clinic should eventually plan to sell. The key to a successful transition is having a well thought out plan. That’s where PTS comes in! We will guide you through the steps to sell your clinic and help you prepare for the transition.

When should I sell my fertility clinic?

In short, the best time to sell your fertility clinic is when it’s at its peak. If you wait too long and the practice is declining, it won’t be as attractive to the buyer and the sell won’t be as profitable.

How long will it take to sell my fertility clinic?

Every clinic is different and how long it takes to sell depends on different circumstances such as location, reason for sale, and patient attraction. With that, it could take between one and three years to sell your clinic.

So, if you are attending the 2017 ASRM Congress, we encourage you to stop by Booth # 104 to discuss possible transition strategies. We will be there to answer any additional questions you have about selling your fertility clinic. If you aren’t attending the congress, you can contact us at any time.

Selling your IVF clinic might be the single biggest decision of your professional career. You don’t want to leave money on the table or get shorthanded in the process. With so much at stake, you really need to understand your IVF clinic value, even if you’re not in the process of selling. Here at Professional Transition Strategies (PTS), we understand that selling or merging an IVF clinic is an intricate process, and we are here to guide you through it. Here’s how to determine your IVF clinic value.

Should I sell my IVF clinic?

Every doctor who owns an IVF clinic should eventually plan to sell. The key to a successful and profitable sale is having a plan and selling when the clinic is at its peak. If you wait too long and your clinic is declining, it won’t be as attractive to the buyer, and the sale won’t be as profitable. Working with a professional transition broker will help put a plan in place to help you prepare for the eventual transition.

Why should I know the value of my IVF clinic?

If you are considering selling your practice, need a second-opinion appraisal, want to bring on a partner into your business, planning for retirement, or are determining your personal net worth, you should know the value of your IVF clinic.

Determining the value of your IVF clinic

There are several details that go into determining the value of your IVF clinic. A good place to start is to have a comprehensive practice appraisal conducted. Not only does this help you understand your IVF clinic’s value, but it also helps you determine ways to make your clinic more profitable. At PTS, we use the most effective method of calculating your clinic’s worth. We look at both attributes and challenges and how they have impacted the clinic.

What affects the value of my IVF clinic?

There are several factors that can affect the value of your clinic. Some factors are the clinic’s location, growth potential, patient attraction and retention rates, reason for sale of the clinic, condition and age of medical equipment, and long-term trends of the clinic’s revenue and profit margin.

Checklist for Selling a Fertility Practice

Selling your fertility practice can require you to make some of the most important business decisions ever. The best way to preserve your clinic’s equity, avoid unnecessary stress, prevent financial disaster and have an overall successful transition is to be prepared and informed. Here are some of the most important things you should know when thinking about selling a fertility practice.

Talk with a transition broker

You have spent years building your fertility practice. Now you are at an important milestone and don’t want to entrust your practice to just anyone. At Professional Transition Strategies (PTS), we are experienced in providing assistance with partnerships, mergers and affiliations, to name a few. Your PTS consultant will meet with you one-on-one to discuss your personal goals. From there, we will conduct a comprehensive practice appraisal. This will determine ways to make your practice more profitable and, in turn, more valuable.

Create a plan

If you plan on selling your fertility practice in the next two to five years, start preparing now. You should try to set the sale of your practice as a carefully planned event. If you wait too long, you could be jeopardizing one of your most valuable assets. For best results, plan ahead so you can control the outcome. A thorough and realistic evaluation of your individual situation can be invaluable in arriving at the best transition plan.

Know the best time to sell

For most doctors, the sale of their fertility clinic is something they think will happen in the far future when they are ready to retire. Most don’t spend any time thinking about or pre-planning a practice sale. They don’t really worry about selling until something unforeseen happens that forces a doctor to think about selling their practice. From a financial perspective, the best time to sell a practice is at its peak market value to achieve the highest equity return.

How long it will take

On average, it can take anywhere between one and three years to sell a fertility practice. Keep in mind every practice is different and how long it takes to sell depends on different circumstances, such as location, the reason for sale, and patient attraction and retention rates.
